Make your Treadmill
Workout a Fun One!
There are several things you can do to decrease the boredom which may
occur with routine workouts on the treadmill.
One of the best ways to reduce boredom while on the treadmill is to
record some of your favorite TV shows or movies and watch them while
working out. You may also wear headphones so that you do not interrupt
the rest of your household. You can even listen to music from your
headphones and watch TV on the close-caption mode. You may set aside a
half hour (or more) to workout, as well as watch a TV show that you
would not ordinarily have time to watch, thereby, enjoying your workout.
You could also enjoy reading a book or magazine while on your treadmill.
You can purchase a reading rack that is designed to fit your particular
treadmill. Instead of reading, you may prefer to listen to books on
tape. It is a good idea to use a tuning belt to keep your cassette
player from falling.
Talk on the phone while on the treadmill. There are racks available that
will hold your cordless phone or cell phone.
You can perform household tasks while on the treadmill as well. One idea
is to put dinner in the oven and walk/run on the treadmill until the
timer goes off. Or you can do the same with laundry; put the laundry in
the washer or dryer and walk/run until you hear the timer.
You can also vary your workout routine on the treadmill by toning your
arms using hand weights or wrist weights while walking on your
treadmill.
Another way to vary your workout routine is to walk/run on the treadmill
for a set time; then get off and perform some strength training
exercises; then get back on the treadmill.
Another idea is to utilize your treadmill time for "downtime" while you
meditate or pray or think about how to solve a dilemma or look forward
to a planned vacation. You can also light scented candles while doing
your meditating or thinking, and take in the aroma around you.
Hang a picture next to your treadmill of how you desire to look. This
will be a good source of inspiration for reaching your goal.
