Fitting Fitness into
Your Schedule 2
Exercise at Home: Your responsibilities certainly don't end at the
office, especially if you are a parent, or a spouse. You can involve
your entire family into your fitness routine. Children don't look at
exercise in terms of "working out" because they generally look at it as
play time; and of course, it is also additional time that you can spend
with your children. You can take walks before or after dinner; play a
game of tag in the backyard; or play a sport with your child. You can
even turn housework into energetic activities. Tasks such as vacuuming,
mopping and sweeping, or even loading the dishwasher are activities that
can keep you moving and strengthen your muscles.
Out and About: You can incorporate fitness into chores such as running
errands. For example, when standing in the supermarket check-out,
contract your buttocks for 15 seconds, then release. This will
strengthen your muscles, and perhaps even give you a little patience
while waiting in line. You can also stand on your tiptoes for a count of
10, then drop back. This will strengthen your calf muscles. Even
activities such as pushing a grocery cart or reaching up or down on
store shelves keeps you moving.
Spur of the Moment: If you are just laying around on one of your days
off, get up off the couch and take a brisk walk. If the weather is not
conducive to outdoor activity, go to your local mall and walk around (at
a fast pace). There are so many options for random fitness excursions,
especially if the weather is nice.
