Fitting Fitness into
Your Schedule
People are so busy nowadays with commitments at work; at home with the
kids and spouse, and possibly extended family; commuting to and from
work; and social and recreational activities. It is difficult to include
fitness into your busy schedule. However, there are many things you can
do to incorporate fitness into your life; after all, fitness doesn't
need to be a formal one hour activity. You can integrate fitness into
your day to day activities by incorporating activities at work, at home,
while you're out and about, and merely on the spur of the moment.
Exercise at Work: Many employers are encouraging their employees to get
healthy and fit. Employers realize that an employee who is in good
physical condition will take much less time off work for illness. There
are some companies which integrate fitness breaks into their employees'
work schedules since they realize people just don't have much time to
exercise. But even if you don't work for a company that promotes
fitness, there are still ways in which you can exercise while at the
office without having to alter your schedule. In fact, there are
activities you can do while working and no one else will even be aware
of what you are doing. For example, if you work in a multi-level office
building, you can take the stairs, rather than the elevator; you can
walk to a co-worker's desk instead of emailing or instant messaging the
person; you can use a restroom that is not on your floor and take the
stairs up to that restroom. You can also incorporate Pilates moves while
working at your desk; participate in stretching activities at your desk,
or in the restroom. Just simply move around more. All it takes is a
little change in your sedentary habits to get you moving.
